SXSW Part 1

SXSW is in full swing around here and we have a had a great time experiencing the first half of the festival.

Incubation Station at SXSW 2013

On Saturday, March 9, we stopped by Incubation Station for a VIP entrepreneurial forum focusing on the importance of social responsibility and businesses. It was a packed house with Congressman Blake Farenthold and Craig Newmark, of the life-changing site Craigslist. Guests snacked on delicious treats from Incubation Station Track 1 and 2 companies including Primizie chips, Texas Texas Salsa and World Peas. Sips were provided by Incubation Station mentor Clayton Christopher’s company, Deep Eddy, who served a beyond tasty Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka cocktail. Social Good TV filmed the informative discussions and we can’t wait to see the footage.

Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer at Bourbon Girl - SXSW 2013

On Monday, March 11, we headed to Bourbon Girl on Sixth Street for big news regarding SHFT, the multimedia platform which hopes to “shift” the way we live to a more sustainable manner. Brainchild of actor Adrian Grenier and filmmaker Peter Glatzer, the company announced their new “Food Tripping” app in conjunction with Ford. The free app gives users the tools they need to eat locally and organically while on the road, pulling from over 50,000 restaurants, farmer’s markets and stores that fit the sustainable criteria. What’s cool about the initiative is that it encourages users to upload their own ‘good food’ spots to share with other like minded individuals. The official release is fittingly set for Earth Day on April 22.

Graceland screening at SXSW 2013

From there, we ended the night with the TV screening ofGraceland, a one-hour drama featuring the lives of undercover DEA and FBI agents living under one roof. The show stars Aaron Tveit, of Les Miserable andGossip Girl fame, Daniel Sunjata, fromSex and the City and Devil Wears Prada, Vanessa Ferlito, Brandon Jay McClaren and Manny Montana. The premiere, to launch in June on USA, was followed with a short Q&A and mingling with the cast, where Tveit’s popularity with young females was apparent. Hosted at Arthouse, the upstairs deck proved to be the perfect setting for an outdoor rooftop soiree. The cocktails and bites were a perfect end to a great beginning of SXSW. Stay tuned for updates on the music scene…
