Where to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Austin

Cinco de Mayo: Weekend Roundup

It goes without saying that Cinco de Mayo is one of Austin’s most beloved celebration weekends and this year is no exception. There’s never a shortage of things to do in this town, but on weekends such as this one, our city really steps up to the plate. Not sure where to begin? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Contigo Second Anniversary Party for Cinco de Mayo

  • Contigo 2nd Anniversary Party: Saturday, May 4 from 5pm-10m and free to the public. One of the best outdoor spots in Austin, Contigo is celebrating two years this Saturday with live music from The Austin Steamers and a TBA Special Guest. They’re hosting various tournaments including a Washer Tournament, Cow Tongue Eating Contest (!), Pickle Guessing Contest, Wine Tasting Competition, and Bartender Competition. If we had to guess, you won’t be standing in the corner with nothing to do at this party.
  • Cinco de Mayo en Volstead Lounge con DJS: Sunday, May 5 from 9pm-Close. 21+ and entry is free. With Margaritas, Tecate and Dos Equis drink specials and a huge salsa bar provided by local Tex Mex joints, what’s not to love? But if the salsa bar isn’t hitting the spot, Volstead Lounge has just welcomed one of Austins newest food trailers, LaV to its backyard. It may not be Mexican, but order the Sweet Potato Doughnut Holes and the Pork Belly “BLT” and you’ll be glad this fiesta brought you to this delicious French and Mediterranean cuisine.
  • The La Condesa Cinco de Mayo Block Party: Sunday, May 5 from 1pm-9pm. This annual favorite Cinco de Mayo event is free to enter and is fun for all ages. The streets are full of dancing, face painting, delicious street food, and more! This is the biggest Cinco de Mayo party in Austin and definitely not one to miss out on. Come early and dance the night away with some of the best DJs Austin has to offer at Malverde located just above La Condesa.

It’s time to put away those sweaters and gear up for summertime. By George is hosting artist Blair Chivers, at their flagship store on 6th & Lamar this Saturday from 1-4pm. Chivers is known for silkscreening and anything you bring into the store, he will silkscreen; we’re talking anything. Walk out with a custom, one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. While you’re there, take a look around. By George carries some of the most fashionable lines you can find such as Alexander Wang, Elizabeth & James, Rag & Bone, Steven Alan, Velvet, Lanvin–you get the gist.

It’s Cinco de Mayo, so naturally, we’re already dreaming of delicious tequila-based cocktails. Stop by W Austin’s Living Room and ask for one of these cocktails; you will not be disappointed.

  • Paloma: Don Julio Reposado, fresca citrus soda, and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • Basil Cranberry Margarita: Tapatio reposado tequila, basil, cranberries, lime juice, agave
  • Green Dragon Margarita: Peligroso silver tequila, green tea syrup, canton ginger liqueur, lime juice

Are you thirsty yet? We know we are. But if tequila isn’t your cup of tea, Craft Pride on Rainey Street is serving up some of Texas’ best craft beers. With weather in the 80s this weekend, you can’t beat the outdoor seating at CP. Our recommendations: Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle IPA and for something a little lighter for the summer heat, you can’t go wrong with the 512 Wit. We love drinking local and we love that that’s what Craft Pride is all about.
