The Sights, Sounds & Tastes of ACL

In its last year before becoming a mega two-weekend fest, ACL threw down some great performances and stepped up its culinary game as well. Here are a few of our highlights from the weekend.

Florence + The Machine at ACL 2013

Florence + The Machine

I’ve never been a huge fan, but after Friday’s show it’s impossible not to fall in love with Welch’s powerful vocals and incredible spirit. Her unique sound is captivating and catchy, and even if it’s not your style, you can at least be jealous of her ability to bounce around the stage and through the crowd while keeping her opera-like voice perfectly in pitch.

The Civil Wars

The highlight of the weekend for me was definitely one of my newer favorite groups- The Civil Wars. Yes, I loved the Avett Brothers’ high energy set that followed, but I was blown away by the duo’s subtle performance. Despite the heat and playing on the last day of a seemingly long weekend, it was awesome to see the hush over the crowd throughout their set which was complete with a “Billie Jean” cover.

Iggy Pop

I’ve always been a huge fan of Iggy, so seeing him on the stage Sunday was definitely a highlight for me. He still puts on an amazing show. Love him.

And then there’s the food. Oh, the food. Usually the crowds make the decision – which line is shortest? This year, I sucked it up and it totally paid off! The weekend highlights included Second Bar + Kitchen (the Pork Belly Bahn Mi), Cool Haus (coconut almond cookie w/ sweet potato and marshmallow ice cream- mmm) and of course Mighty Cone (Hot & Crunchy Avocado Cone)- I could eat one every day.
